👋 Who we are

📦 What we collect
Account information — if you sign up, we store your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
Links you create — the destination URL, the generated (or custom) short code/alias, and, for account holders, which custom domain (if any) it's attached to.
Click analytics — each time a short link is clicked we log the approximate country, region and city (derived from the visitor's IP, not the raw IP itself), device type, browser, operating system, and referrer. This powers the analytics dashboard shown to the link's owner. Raw IP addresses are used only transiently — for geo-lookup and to enforce abuse/rate-limit rules on unauthenticated link creation — and are not displayed on any analytics screen, including to admins.
Cookies — a session cookie keeps you signed in; an anonymous bytly_did
device cookie lets guests (not signed in) see their own recently-created links without an account.

API keys — if you use the Bytly API, we store the key, its rate-limit usage, and which account it belongs to.
Blog contributions — if you submit a blog post, we store the content and your account association; posts go through admin moderation before publishing.
Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is handled by our payment gateway; Bytly does not store your card, UPI, or bank details on its own servers.
🍪 Cookies & third-party services
Besides the session and device cookies above, Bytly uses a small number of third-party services that may set their own cookies or collect data in your browser:
- Google Analytics — anonymised usage/traffic statistics.
- Google AdSense — may show personalised or non-personalised ads and use cookies for ad measurement, per Google's own policies.
- Adsterra and Monetag — our other advertising partners, which may similarly use cookies/local storage to serve and measure ads.
These partners operate under their own privacy policies, which we don't control. You can manage or block cookies from your browser settings, and opt out of personalised ads via each network's own opt-out tools where offered.
🎯 How we use this information
- To operate the short-link redirect and show you your own links, history and analytics.
- To detect and block spam, phishing, or abusive link creation (rate-limiting guest usage by IP).
- To send account-related and in-app/email notifications you've opted into (e.g. link expiry, blog approval, account activity, API limits).
- To process subscription payments and manage your plan.
- To improve the product and, where ads are shown, to support running the service for free.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
🗑️ Data retention & your choices
Account and link data is kept for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual links, or request full account deletion, from your dashboard settings or by writing to us — we'll remove your account data except where we're required to keep records (e.g. for fraud prevention or legal compliance) for a limited period.
🧒 Children's privacy
Bytly is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
🔐 Security
We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, and parameterised database access throughout the platform. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data using industry-standard practices.
